Time For A Change

Howdy!

I've been uber busy recently. First, I have an accounting exam on Monday which I am NOT ready for, so me writing a new blog entry isn't really helpful (but I'll do it anyways because I miss y'all). Second, I decided to pledge for Beta Alpha Psi only, and maybe next semester I'll do Delta Sigma Pi, but as of right now, I don't have enough time to spread myself across two frats, a leadership program, schoolwork, volunteering, work, and of course my personal life.

So I've decided to dye my hair this weekend again. I plan on dying it dark, because I feel done with the whole dying hair thing lol. I haven't gone dark in years so I think its time to go back. I'm either going to dye it jet black or a deep dark brown, my friend keeps saying "espresso" haha... I love Hyori Lee so I'm getting ideas from her. Here are some pics:

Black

Dark Brown

And here's Nan Zhang because she's adorable:

So do y'all think I should go black or dark brown?

Help me decide please :) I'll be doing it tomorrow so leave some feedback if you like. I'll be making another post later when I have the time with some makeup stuff I've done. Until then...

Peace <3

I think dark brown would look lovely on you, not as harsh as black.

It hasn't been that long since you last dyed your hair, has it? Don't you think you should wait it out lest your scalp starts drying up? I'm curious to see how you'd look in black. No matter what color you go with, I'm sure you'll be gorgeous as always :)

You would look gorgeous in a dark and warm brown color...like your friend said "espresso".

I can see why you might want to try jet black because it's pretty exotic and can make a pretty face pop even more. But from personal experience black hair dye is very problematic. It does not fade. Your roots will grow out and you'll notice the difference in your natural shade and the black. If you ever want to change your haircolor again you'd have to go to a salon and have the color professionally lifted and this process is time consuming and expensive. It's also very damaging to your hair. I had tried to dye over the black at home and basically the new dye only took to the roots because there was no black dye there and the rest was jet black. I gave up and just waited for it to grow out. So I wouldn't recommend it.

Hi hun! I like dark brown on you :) I think darker hair overall just gives that professional and matured sass.

Glad to hear things are going great and you're keeping yourself busy. Always nice to know things are flowing as they should.

Happy Aloha Friday love. Take care.

good luck on your test! I'd say a dark brown, you can dye it black when you're older. that's what I said, course i let it grow out instead cut my hair short like a bob and then got bored of it and highlighted it, a vicious cycle. darker hair is easier to maintain, dyeing it black means you can't really dye it lighter, its way damaging to hair at that point. but either way post pics, and do a eotd of that dark smokey eye :)

i think dark brown looks more natural to me. jet black (or preferably blue-black) is nice too, but if you think you might change your hair color again later, it's not a good idea. ive gotten scolded by hair stylists for dying it black because you can never really dye it again unless you bleach it! and that would cause too much damage to your hair :)

i think dark brown would look great on you. black is super black. LOL :D hope it turns out well. i cant wait to see pictures. tee hee*

Dark brown will be pretty and more natural. I used to have jet black and it just looks so heavy and u know, once you go jet black, it's hard to dye it back... unless using strong bleach which will damage your hair. It's my 2 cents hope that help :)

hey girl, great to see u back! g'luck on the test on monday! i'd love to see u in dark brown although i bet u'd look gorgeous in both! btw, fafi is coming out early at selected freestanding stores. don't know if ur around any in TX but im so excited! ^-^

hey go for jet black. its more bold. and your pretty features and nice skin tone will pop up!

hello stephie,
i go to your blog all the time and just recently started my own. and i must say that i think you should go for a dark brown, i've seen some asian girls dye their hair jet black and it just washes them out and it looks like a wig bc its soo black. but thats just my 2cent in this. so i hope it helps. oh and btw those two girls are sooo pretty!!! hehe

Princess*Sparkle said...

we were missing u too! isnt ur hair naturally dark brown? i think black mite be a lil harsh. go wit th brown :) i'm gonna b doin highlights this weekend 1st time!!

Simply said...

Hmm..I believe your hair was already a dark-ish brown before wasn't it Stephie? I say go for a dramatic black this time!

Linda said...

dark brown. a little color is always good. i think black is too unnatural but it still may look good on you.

dark brownnn =]

BLACK. I think it would look sexy on you. :-)

Patricia said...

Blue Black! I think it'll look awesome on you and it'll make your make up and features really pop!
I think it'll look chic and sexy!
But either way, if you do dark brown or black I think the dark colours will really suit you.
Oh if you do decide to dye it black or blue black I recommend using NICE AND EASY. It's one of the cheaper ones and it really stinks BUT I've tried all the blue black and nice and easy is the ONLY one that doesn't wash off after a month (I've even done it at the salon and it fades). But if you do dye it then it'll be permenant and you won't be able to dye anything else on top unless you strip the dye, which is quite damaging (I've done that a few years ago as well). Every 15 minutes, blow dry your hair for about 3 minutes and keep doing that until 1.5 hours. Even though the box probably says 35 min or something like that. And then don't wash it the next day.
Hope you'll like the result!

chloe said...

dark brown for sure.

JJ said...

either or will look fine on you. Since before, you already had dark hair, going darker would be fine.

Fei said...

Hm... I say jet black, because it's a more drastic change than brown.

I'm not sure how it works out at your school, but usually students are not allowed to join more than one type of fraternity. If that's the case, you chose a good one anyway and you can always join a social sorority later on. :p Good luck going through pledging! It's tough, but worthwhile.

Anonymous said...

Dark brown would suit you better (I think), though jet black would of course be fine too :P
O, could you please tell me what the use is of a sorority? (I'm not from the USA and have no idea what people do in a sorority)

Anonymous said...

hi stephie,
i think dark brown would look great on you..black might be a bit harsh.. good luck with school and everything! can't wait for the pictures! =] take care <3

Anonymous said...

You should dye it dark brown because it will look black anyways. If you dye it black it might be tooo black. I tried dark brown once and my hair looked black haha :) and plus i think asian girls look better with black hair cuz its natural n it makes us look more exotic! haha :D

Anonymous said...

Black is too harsh. I think dark brown would look amazing with your skin tone.

sunnkiist said...

hey girl. i think you'd look gorgeous in a dark brown just because black is really dark and when you finally decide you wanna go lighter again, it's gonna be real hard to go light after dying the hair full on black. soooo, yeah, :]

Anonymous said...

wasnt ur hair dark brown before? black would look best (=

caroline said...

definately dark brown

Anonymous said...

i think dark brown will look so lovely on you. try clairol's nice 'n' easy in 117D natural medium cool brown, it's the perfect rich chocolate brown color that looks very natural - like Audrina Patridge's hair color. Hth! :D

Krystle said...

Dang your a busy bee! Are you looking for internships this semester too?

I say go for the dark brown b/c it would look really cute on you.

Good Luck with your accounting test! My bf has been studying for his CPA, and he let me look through his books. I forgot how much accounting gives me a headache. lol.

Anonymous said...

pls don't dye your hair...it's going to fall off...it really hasn't been that long since you dyed it. i dyed my hair really light and then changed my mind to go black...my hair started to fall out in chunks...if you are planning to dye your hair now..i would cut your hair so that it would look like you're balding after you dye it darker...

Anonymous said...

dark brown, no black to bold -=]

dark brown! i think black would be too harsh.

Some people here are telling you that dyeing your hair black is bad for it, and that is totally untrue. I have thick+thin straight Asian hair, and the ends always become dull and dry, and when I dye it black they become shiny and healthy again. Your hair absorbs the darker dye and gets thicker. So if you think your hair is thick enough now, use dark brown. If you wouldn't mind adding a little more thickness, try jet black. Also keep in mind that you'll have to change your make-up regimen depending on what color you choose...
anyway, my opinion is that since you had dark brown/espresso hair in the past you should try black. I second using Clairol Nice n Easy. There's also something called Natural Match which works really well.

yup i love hyori toooooo!!

anyways dark brown would look good on you, a nice subtle chocolate brown, and some caramel brown... actually thats what i'm getting done next..

i'm a hair model .. get my hair dyed every month... and nope... its not dead yet.. i get it trimmed every 2 months so its still healthy!!

good luck with exams!!

said...

Definitely go with dark brown! I actually dyed my hair black a couple weeks ago and wish I didn't. It's way too harsh, especially since my hair hasn't been this dark since I was a little kid. It just..doesn't look as natural I guess? But yeah, I vote dark brown. :)

I'm going against the crowd here... I love the black. Black is so chic, sexy, and classic! So many people have med-dark brown hair w/ blondish highlights. I'm Filipino (totally americanized *lol), have the same skin tone as you, and love my shiny soft black color! Either way - you are gorgeous - Can't wait to see the final look!

Elizabeth said...

dark brown all the way. Black looks too goth especially after you dye it

i think you'd look great with either colour. however from reading other people's comments it seems jet black might limit your choices of future hair colours until it grows out.
hope all is well with you!

hey steph - i (like you) have spent years dying my hair and i just recently dyed it jet black and i've been getting so many compliments (i'm asian too - at first i was scared i was going to look like some fob but its actually quite sexy! you won't regret it)

I would say dark brown with some caramel highlights at the crown and framing the face. Highlights add character to the hair, but not too chunky or it will look dated.

Anonymous said...

im still lookin forward to seeing that new tutorial you recorded! i think dark hair (black or dark brown) would really compliment your face

Black! Embrace your Asian-ness! I recently met my boss's wife and she was philipino with jet black hair. It looked AWESOME. I think it's a great way to look unique and mysterious. Just stumbled upon your blog and makeup vids...LOVE them and I really listen to your advice. I love your makeup skills - you are going to be a fab artist!

I always wanted to go black but dark brown never fails.

You should go the darkest brown you can go. That way it looks black but isn't as harsh and still has some brown tint to it! :)

hi stephie :) its my first time commenting but i've been a lurker for a while..haha i think both brown and black would look good on you. i recently dyed my black hair, and i think it makes your face features more defined.and brown gives you a softer look, more girly i think.but both are nice colorssss..sorry its not helping you much making your decision :P

ilurvemakeup said...

Once you go black you never go back. Umm think this applies to hair too *shrugs* lol I love black hair, specially pinays who stay true to their black hair/deep dark dark brown, but looks black either way lol Like Alienman said, you should wait it out a bit, girl remember America's Next Top Model where the girl had to get her head shaved off from all the damage that occurred on her constant dye job? :o :) But yeah, no matter how many times you dye it, I think everyone looks better with their natural hair style cuz you know that was originally God's hair style of choice for you ;) My mom always said that growing up so I wouldn't dye my hair purple behind her back lol COME BACK TO ABB! <3

Anonymous said...

Your skin tone is really nice. But I think black hair would overshadow your face. You would look real good with espresso.

i vote dark brown...and then you can transition to black after that and i think it'll be a smoother transition, can't wait to see what you come up with, you'll look beautiful either way :)

anon 8:05 - do us all a favor and keep your rudeness to yourself. better yet just don't check my blog and take your own advice and unsub! i dont like people who nag so just grow up. i'm done with trying to be nice to people like you.

ahh, please post what you used! I'm trying to tinge my hair purple because the salon said purple streaks are too complicated and temporary to waste the time+money on. I would appreciate the info :)

Asian chicks always look great with black hair, is certain! :) go for it :) since it's paint it was drys off on you and after a while goes to brown lol

petitebelle said...

I think Hyori looks SO much better with dark brown hair than black. I think you should go for dark brown as well! Actually looks more natural thank black in my opinion :)

i think you should dye your hair dark brown. yep thats my opinion :D

Webgrl said...

whups i hope this comment aint comin too late lol
take it from someone who's gone black before
NOOOOOO lol
it ends up looking too severe and u'll be itchin to go lighter again.
I gave up the blonde game in january and went chocolate brown /espresso and it looks so healthy and sexy i'm so loving it! you will too
black has a tendency to look wig like and too fake.
A stylist once told me if ur tihnking of going black go super dark brown. Black is hard to lift back off too when ur ready to change it

Anonymous said...

i would suggest dark brown..because black seems flat and brown looks more detailed and textured.....

you are the cutest thing, and gorgeous!
